He was 88. In the last month, his health kinda fell off a cliff. He was a very smart man. Pretty snarky and sarcastic but a loyal husband and devoted dad and grandfather.
A true blue Democrat, with a giant blinking D. Ran for judge on the Liberal line in a pretty conservative suburban county. Got thrashed of course, but stood by his principles.
He had a good run, but I will really miss him.

(38,958 posts)As you said he had a good run, lots of folks don't make it to 88 so he did pretty good.

(9,256 posts)Sometimes they go so fast after 85. Same with my FIL. He got that nasty flu 2 years ago, turned to pneumonia, that was it. Still miss the old guy.

(7,572 posts)You were so fortunate to have such a kind, wonderful father-in-law in your life. My father-in-law was an alcoholic as was my mother-in-law. They both committed suicide that ended their destructive lives. Bless you and your family. And bless this man that was so important in your life. May he rest in peace.

(3,321 posts)My wife and I performed CPR on him for 10 minutes before the paramedics arrived. We were too late, it was not enough to save him.
Rest in Peace David, my beloved father-in-law.

(53,410 posts)Its always too tough to lose family. And at this time of year it can be unusually difficult, especially with kids. I hope he went confident that his beloved country was headed back on the right track. Hugs to all of you.
