I finally realized they were saying "wire pliers". I've also heard them called "plowers".

A friend of mine referred to it as the mother tongue. It's what you hear growing up and it tends to stick with you..

on right wing soldiers stationed at Fort Bragg, had one who for some inexplicable reason was concerned about "gay rats."
It took him a while to realize that what was upsetting him was "gay rights."

16. yes from the wide spot in the road known as Powderly

I grew up about 50 miles south of Powderly.

The Everly's accents were very different from what you would hear in our area. Much more like up in the Eastern KY mountain areas- very nasal. In our area 'care' might sound more like 'caauh' (two syllables) but you would definitely hear the flat a sound as opposed to the long e.

Our area was settled early by Virginians moving westward and that more fluid accent is still noticable. Less twangy.

Be that as it may, they were fine singers!

Of course KY has Cadiz (KAdees) and Versailles (pronounced VerSAYLs)

I can identify a KY native strictly on pronounciation of Louisville.

13. 'Cathy's Clown' has a lot of near rhymes:
Sun Dec 22, 2019, 09:16 AM
Dec 2019

Don't want your love anymore
Don't want your kisses, that's for sure
I die each time I hear this sound
Here he comes, that's Cathy's clown

I gotta stand tall
You know a man can't crawl
When he knows you're tellin' lies and he hears 'em passing by
He's not a man at all

Don't want your love anymore
Don't want your kisses, that's for sure
I die each time I hear this sound
Here he comes, that's Cathy's clown

When you see me shed a tear
And you know that it's sincere
Don't you think it's kinda sad that you're treating me so bad
Or don't you even care?

Don't want your love anymore
Don't want your kisses, that's for sure
I die each time I hear this sound
Here he comes, that's Cathy's clown

That's Cathy's clown
That's Cathy's clown
