crafted like fine silver, acted with so much talent and directed by a female genius.
You will be delighted with the artistry of this film. Acting, directing, cinematography, script, just the best.
This amazing film should take about 20 Oscars...

(4,657 posts)The flashbacks were confusing, I thought many roles were miscast, and I thought it seemed like it wanted to be a musical. lol
I've read the book more than once and I've seen the old movie adaptations, so I guess I'm super critical of this remake. I had very high hopes for it. Sorry.

(9,637 posts)I was really looking forward to it, but I was let down.
The filming and the locations were beautiful. But the way the story went back-and-forth, it was confusing for me. And I've read the book at least 10 times and I have seen every film version of the book.
I felt that Laura Dern was miscast, as was the actress who played Amy. I can pronounce, but can't spell the name of the actress who played Jo. She was fantastic.
The ages felt off for most of the characters.
I think my favorite version of Little Women has to be the one with Christian Bale and Winona Ryder.
And if you go back to the black-and-white versions, I really like the June Allyson version.
I did enjoy the way they wrapped up the ending of this movie. But the entire time I watched it, I kept having to figure out what time period we were in. I thought of how confusing it would be for someone who had never read the book.

(9,637 posts)If you knew the book as well as I do, you would be very picky as well.
I actually met someone who has never even heard of the book. So I'm buying her a copy. She has to read this book! And you should too. It is wonderful!

(4,429 posts)I didn't mind the flashbacks, I've seen enough versions of this to know exactly what to expect. I didn't mind Jo - though she wasn't my favorite Jo ever (I liked Winona Ryder).
But mostly, from my perspective - it's already been done so well in the past - I didn't need the remake.

(7,569 posts)when about 12-13.
But, I did not like some of the casting: Laura Dern as Marmee, the boy who played Laurie was weak, Amy - not the right character; Jo was great, also Mr. March, and of course Meryl Streep just cannot fail!!! Meg was OK. I also thought there was way too much back and forth in time. Those not familiar with the book would be totally confused.
