We found a restaurant near Porte Maillot that is doing all you can eat oysters and roast lamb. Because of the transit strike (if you haven't heard, Paris has been without bus and train drivers for about a month now) they had a lot of cancellations, so we managed to get a seat, and, I assume, will be rolling ourselves home afterwards. Anybody got a good party planned in your neck of the woods?

(21,998 posts)Each year, my wife and I stay at a timeshare resort on Cape Cod for the week between Christmas and New Year's. The Cape is lovely with a rich history and we've found many things to do there in spite of it being the off-season.
Our plans for later today include a late afternoon walk on the beach followed by cocktails in the hot tub. The rest of the evening will be spent in our suite preparing and nibbling on bits of food while playing Scrabble, Jenga and The Sailor's Game, (Trivial Pursuit for sailors). Later in the evening, we'll make a lobster dinner. Then we'll sip champagne while playing billiards before waiting for the New Year.
While it may sound a bit tame, I have no desire to go out into crowds of people, too many of whom are inebriated, to celebrate a forced holiday. To each their own!
And Happy New Year to all especially DUers!

(56,582 posts)My sister and I used to go out to Orleans every New Years (we would joke that I'm the only straight guy there, and the girl I'm with is my sister).
Sounds like an amazing NYE! Auld lang syne!

(21,998 posts)Actually, I'm hoping for an early afternoon nap or else I won't make it to midnight.
Our timeshare is in Yarmouth and several years ago, we took a day trip out to Provincetown. We found a local pub for lunch and were enjoying the peacefulness that I'm confident one wouldn't find in the Summer. On one wall was a poster/calendar of the upcoming events at the pub. On New Year's Eve, they were planning a drag show and my wife pointed out that I bore an uncanny resemblance to the host of that event. Ever since, I've threatened to enter their competition!
We also love France and have made a number of visits there. Your NYE sounds terrific too! Happy New Year, Recursion!
ETA: Of course, you're in a different time zone.

(63,221 posts)I don't really like NYE either - the drunken crowds and potentially dangerous drivers on the roads - I prefer to stay in. I plan to order up a Chinese feast to be delivered and watch some movies on Amazon Prime. I love just vegging out and doing nothing. I couldn't be happier!
Hope you have a great time on the Cape! I love it down there.
Happy New Year everyone!

(5,810 posts)They have a New Years Eve Concert which well attend. I bought some salmon yesterday for our pre-concert dinner. After the concert is over, well come home and wait for our neighbors to start lobbing off their (illegal in our state) fireworks. All in all, a pretty nice way to say farewell to 2019 and Welcome to 2020! I might even have a bottle of bubbly we can crack open to toast in the New Year! 🎊 🍾🥂🍾🎊

My New Year's Eve tradition is to watch Death at a Funeral, the British version. It always makes me laugh until I have tears pouring down my face. I think that's a good way to say goodbye to the past year, and say hello to the new one.
Cheers to all and Happy New Year!

(7,565 posts)I prefer to stay home for NYE.
In the last several days, I binged on all 8 Harry Potter movies and finished the Deathly Hallows part 2 earlier today.
I'm currently munching on popcorn while watching NOLA's Bourbon Street's earthcam. https://www.earthcam.com/usa/louisiana/neworleans/bourbonstreet/?cam=catsmeow2

(55,004 posts)we used to have a big blowout with friends from town, big bonfire and lots of drunken revelry. Most of them faded away and couldn't handle the partying. For a number of years it was just us and a big fire. This year we aren't even doing the fire (I think we skipped it last year too, I honestly can't remember). My son quit drinking a couple of years ago and the husband quit this year. I am planning to have a mojito in a little while, and I have a half bottle or red wine to finish, also a couple of beers. If my son's friend comes out I will open a Champagne at midnight but if not I will save it for some other time. Or maybe I will open it at 11 and work on it by myself. Ha ha, who knows. we have some shrimps, junk food snacks, good sodas and juices.
