I've had a major "flame-out" with the major brand antiviral total security package I've used for four years with no prior issues and (previously) total confidence. Seems the pre-Christmas automated update corrupted both Foxfire & Chrome rendering them unable to open or even be fully uninstalled. That chain of events then ended in total corruption of Windows 10 and required a full 96 hours before I could FINALLY get things back (after uninstalling that security software). NO, I did not have any viral, trojan or malware infection that set this off. For now I have Malwarebytes Premium and Windows Defender protecting me until I can decide on a replacement.Your input appreciated and I will post the ratings for 2020 that I found from my research of the leading tech sites-- once those who wish have had time to weigh in. Perhaps others are likewise considering a change. Oh, and if by chance you DON'T like your package please tell us why

(139 posts)Main thing we look at is the "footprint" of the AV. Does it take over everything (annoying) and cause an extra load on the system? Have liked mostly ESET (AV only) and Bitdefender. More important I think is a solid online backup that keeps versions of docs over time. That's the perfect thing to protect you from the encryption ransom attacks. Have seen them get past many AV apps.

(21,747 posts)so far-so good. worth it for the peace of mind. also with one license you can use it on all your devices, so I have it on my desktop, my phone and my tablet.
