We have a terrific theme this month: In Honor of the Roman God, Janus (god of doors, beginnings and endings, transitions facing forwards and backwards)
AND, for the first time, we will be running the contest under the new rules: the winner does get the prize of choosing the theme for the next contest, BUT, the winner no longer has the responsibility to host the next contest. We have moved to a new scheme: we will be using volunteer hosts. So don't worry that you might enter the winning shot and then be on the hook to host the next contest!
There are lots of possibilities for this theme. Think about your photo telling a story. Think about possibility. Think about history and especially changing history. Think about protests against war and the movement toward peace. Think about equal rights.
Here is the link to the Submissions thread: https://www.democraticunderground.com/103673670
Submissions will be open until January 18th, or until we reach 30 entries.
I'm going to put up a few of my own shots, just to get your creative juices flowing.
As an example of the god of doors and transitions
door to an inner courtyard that can't be seen from the street
one of the three doors to Notre Dame, signifying the transition from secular to holy space
as an example of transition in policy
from segregation to integration
two water fountains on the grounds of NC State Capitol (yes, one for whites and one for "coloreds" although the signs are no longer there)
a monument in Washington DC to a man who was all about creating transition to equality ( notice the inscription!)
cemeteries as transition from one life to the next
hallways as transition from one space to another
There are lots of possibilities! Please enter a photo.
Come on chaps lots of interpretation on this one. The more the merrier!
