i'm shaking ash out of my hair and praying for my mountains

it's ugly here in northern colorado, about as bright as dusk from the fire with a blood red sun drifting in and out of the cloud of smoke. the outlook is grim, sheriff and fire officials say there is no hope for containment right now.

it's eerie here.

we here in town are in no immediate danger, but it is bone dry up there and the wind keeps whipping up. slightly cooler temps early in the week but no real chance for rain any time soon.

i've seen some nasty fire seasons here, but never a fire this big.

and I saw an article today that had it at 14000. "No hope of containment," they said on the Coloradoan online.

the fire got big fast with the winds the way they've been the last couple days. didn't help that yesterday was so hot.

i've been at my dad's most of the day and he's on the west side of fort collins. i can hear the aircraft flying over, but it gives me little comfort right now.

There is not a lot of warning in these things, sometimes. I saw to many of them living in Los Angeles and watching fires march across the Santa Monica mountains.

I have a lot of family in Colorado, was just thinking of calling my cousin to make sure she's safe. Now that I know I have DU family in Colorado, as well, you'll be on my mind, too. Stay safe and don't take chances. And let us know how you are...

and we can smell the smoke.

It sucks but fires are part of the natural cycle and over all benefit the forest

Saw some pictures last night from somewhere in Fort Collins (couldn't tell exactly where) in which flames were visible in the night. And I just read that they've closed Harmony Road from Masonville all the way in to Taft Hill.

I'm having a hard time imagining all of this. Stay safe, fizzgig.

Be well, Fort Collins!

it double in size overnight, winds are just not in our favor right now. there's a lot of road closures and evacuations to the south of the fire, i'm wondering if they didn't expect it to start moving south during the night.

the thing has to cross or come around the reservoir before i'm going to start seriously worrying, but it should get easier to fight if it does come down out of the foothills.

keeping my fingers crossed here.
