It's one of those times, when it seems like everyone is finding their soulmate except me. Anyone know some good songs about situations like this? Depressing or uplifting, either one. So far, I've thought of:
Gotta Be Somebody - Nickelback
Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day

(8,556 posts)That's the thing about great songwriting and lyricism. Great lyrics don't have to be complicated, they just have to resonate.
'Another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody. I got some money cause I just got paid.'
Who hasn't been in that exact same situation at one point or another?'

This will make it all better:
CARCASS - No Love Lost
Sensual awakening
Numbing feeling's dead
Conception's romanticised
Synthesized broken heart's to bled
Without emotion you heartstring's played
Strummed and severed to the tune of a tragic serenade
[A tragic chorus]
Without emotion, your heartstrings break
Snapped and severed to the tune of a tragic, sad cliche
No love lost
When all is said and done
There's no love lost
The low cost of loving
Amorous travesty
Human frailties and weakness are easy prey
How your poor heart will bleed

(14,274 posts)Put this one in the depressing category. The level of depression is deliciously majestic.
If you prefer the female version, Jamie O'Neal covers the song beautifully on the Bridget Jones' Diary soundtrack.

(33,235 posts)'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Trying to make ends meet
You're a slave to money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah
No change, I can't change
I can't change, I can't change
But I'm here in my mind
I am here in my mind
But I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mind
No, no, no, no, no, no, no,no,no,no,no,no......
Well I never pray
But tonight I'm on my knees yeah
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now
But the airways are clean and there's nobody singing to me now
No change, I can't change
I can't change, I can't change
But I'm here in my mind
I am here in my mind
And I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mind
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
I can't change
I can't change it
'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Trying to make ends meet
Trying to find some money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah
You know I can't change, I can't change
I can't change, I can't change
But I'm here in my mind
I am here in my mind
And I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mind
No, no, no, no, no
I can't change my mind
no, no, no, no, no,
I can't change
Can't change my body,
no, no, no
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
Been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
That you've ever been down
That you've ever been down

(15,164 posts)The ones that come to mind immediately are
"You Don't Know Me" -Ray Charles (covered by numerous artists)
"Someone to watch over me" George Gershwin (again covered by numerous artists)
"I who have nothing" -Tom Jones
"It Must Have Been Love" by Roxette -actually a break-up song but it is one of my favorites so I'll include it anyway
"A Man Without Love" Engelbert Humperdinck
"The Winner Takes It All" -Abba (again a break-up song but I find it suitable for times like these)
"Lemon Tree" -several versions of this but Peter, Paul & Mary's version is the one I have.
