3. The easiest way

is to simply cut it all off (and finish with a shaver). Makes a nice even "cut" - and no skill required.

5. That's pretty much what I have done for years now.

Bought one of the hair shavers with the various gauge widths and haven't been to the barber since.

It does a pretty good job but hey, I'm not trying to impress anyone.

I'm also pretty sure I would bogger up the job. I look goofy enough when my barber does the job.

pretty easy to use - just keep on going over it until no more hair is cut. I have unruly hair (grows in various directions) so a more normal head would likely be even easier.

For best results, keep it short and don't wait too long between cuts.

11. Yeah, but my barber is a friend of mine.

His father before him cut my hair since I was a child. His wife is a friend of mine and teaches at the same college as my wife. He has a really cute toddler to support and a mortgage to pay. He needs to make a living just like everyone else.

I'll hold out for as long as I can before doing anything drastic. If I finally buckle, I'll go to him when the shop opens to straighten the mess I've made.

6. That has occurred to me but I look goofy enough without being a pilgarlic!

The first time my girlfriend - now wife - saw me with a cadet buzz cut, she cried, then laughed, then cried..... It went on for quite some time.

My last buzz cut was as a cadet. Between the buzz cut and the BCGs (birth control glasses), it was not a good look.

But I needed to see the mirror he was looking in, or the cell phone, or something, just so I would know he still had his ears by the time the video was over.
