...About the time of Lucy, there was a woman writer/radio actress named Peg Lynch. She was one of the first, if not the first, woman to write every script and star in her own radio show. She, with Alan Bunce, pay a married couple. The writing and delivery are genius. It's much better than Balls pre-Lucy radio show 'My Favorite Husband'.
Google them and try to listen to their radio show. You can catch a FEW tv episodes of The Ethel and Albert Show on You tube. The others are radio shows and are called Little Things in Life and The Couple Next Door. Same characters, different names and with the addition of Margaret Hamilton ( aka the wicked witch of the West!) The shows run from the late 40s into the early 60s..
Lucille Ball said Peg Lynch was one of her inspirations..
can you tell I'm bored?

(5,293 posts)Barbara Eden compared the experiences of working with Ann Southern vs Lucille Ball.
Southern was jealous of having a younger ingenue on her show.
Lucy, despite the fact that Desi was a notorious hound-dog, helped Barbara glam up for her character because, she explained to Eden, she knew it would make the episode better.
Lucy was a pro.

(5,524 posts)It was really quite charming. The obvious reference was to Debra Messing following in the footsteps of Lucy but they also let Jack and Karen play along. In fact they let Karen do the grape stomping scene.
But this scene with Messing doing the alcoholic dietary supplement advertisement was the best.
