I met one of the founders' kids and he was a real jerk. Founder's kids are often like that and I always wondered if the chain was sold partly because there was no next generation to make it work.
Then again, it was a complete ripoff of McDonald's and McDonald's was growing fast while this wasn't, so it's future was dark anyway.

Someone bought the Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips name long after it closed and some of us celebrated since that was a favorite place with good fish, great fries and the only place to get cider vinegar for them. But, any slob could get a franchise, and many did-- greasy spoons and Turnpike counters had the name but inedible food. Blecchh!
