Many of us remember that. Many of us do not. With 24-hour crap, I don't think it happens now. HopeHoops Jun 2012 #10

When they don't have the viewership to justify regular programs with ads at 4 in the morning, they just let some dork come on and sell you a new plastic convection oven.

More accurately we have his handlers to thank for that. Raygun suffered from the brain rot for most of his presiduncy and had absolutely no clue what was going on within his own administration.

Reagan is to blame for this, as much as Obama is to blame for gas prices.

In other words, not a damn bit.

These infomercials would dry up and blow away if no one bought whatever they are hawking, simple as that.

This was the FCC, updating an obsolete rule.

No one forces us to watch infomercials.
Or buy their crap.

People do because they are dumb.
And people have always been dumb, when it comes to advertizing.

The reason the rule came about in the first place was because networks were filling content with crap and deceptive advertising. The public complained and the rules were the result. The rule was changed as part of Raygun's 'big government is bad, big business is good' lie. Immediately after the rule was abolished, networks went back to filling content with crap and deceptive advertising, even worse in some respects than before.

From 3am until 5am following an hour of infomercials, WATM ABC23 still signs off to a test pattern and then runs a colorbar with logo bug until signing back on at 5am. It plays also plays a slideshow with the national anthem at sign off and sign on.
