Just re-read A.J. Liebling's "Between Meals"

Amazing portrait of a Paris that is no longer there. The short trips when he was a child in the early 1900's, his year there as a student in 1926-27, a brief sojourn pre World War 2 in 1939 and a trip in the 1950's.

He's most known for his New Yorker writings and some of the pieces in "Between Meals" may have been published there.

A fascinating book dealing with the charm and lure of Paris.
