...for a while. Between military acronyms and medical abbreviations, I could write a whole paragraph that had no real nouns -
DEROS - date of estimated return from overseas PCS - permanent change of station TDY - temporary duty AFSC - Air Force specialty code MWR - Morale, Welfare and Recreation The Navy is the master of acronyms. And then there’s always SNAFU and FUBAR. And JANAFU. |

I work in IT - one time I left a phone message for an out-of-state co-worker, filled with acronyms. His elderly father lived with him and said, "Son, some drunk lady called for you, she left you a message". After my coworker listened to the message he said, "Dad, that's a work call, she's not drunk". The father said, WELL, SHE SOUNDS DRUNK TO ME.
About a month later I received an Skype IM from that coworker saying Dad says a drunk lady called....WAS THAT YOU? I replied NO, I DID NOT CALL YOU AND I AM NOT DRUNK! A while later he IM'd me again saying, THAT WAS A FRIEND OF MINE IN MICHIGAN......SHE REALLY *WAS* DRUNK. |
