One of our patients bought a dozen doughnuts for our clinical team this morning.

He approached me with the box as I was getting out of my car a little while ago. "Here, these are for you guys."

I was a little overwhelmed, and couldn't thank him enough. A homeless person spending what little money he has on such a gesture. I didn't know what to say other than "thank you" many times.

My assistant just got here, and when I told her about the doughnuts, she told me that our friend had helped her yesterday with an unruly patient in the waiting room (I must have been in one of the exam rooms with a patient at the time) who was threatening to get violent. He shooed the guy out of the clinic and told him not to come back. Then today, he buys doughnuts for us.

So this man is on our list of clinic heroes today.

Small wonder I choose our homeless patients over mainstream patients any day...
