9. I generally cringe when I hear the National Anthem being sung...

because I've heard it butchered hundred and hundreds of times.

These guys all but nailed it and I rate them a 'nine'; that impossible note to hit needs just a little more work.

That being said, their rendition raised the hairs on my neck.

[link:https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=2519206|

Part of third verse.

No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

37. I have goosebumps!

That was gorgeous. I want to feel that way about my country again in the same way that song made me feel. The last time I felt like that was sitting in my living room watching President Obama's first inauguration with tears streaming down my face. I had lost a lot of patriotism during the Dubya years (let's never forget that he was a complete disaster also), but I thought we were finally on the right track after that debacle. Then we ended up with this.

Thanks for posting that.

42. As a lifelong opera fan,

let me put in a plug fr opera as a career field for anyone who has the voice and discipline to use it.

Lovers of opera really don't care if the people on stage are white, black, brown, yellow, red, green, purple - tall or short - fat or thin. We care, first, whether they can sing, and second, whether they can act (and these days opera casts are starting to ciucumvent the whole debate between singing and acting by calling themselves storytellers.)

Book recommendation:

Which makes it kind of the ďAntiĒ anthem. Love it anyway, but I love it BECAUSE of its anti-war, anti-imperialist sentiments.

55. That was a moment...

My family (on my mother's side) came to America from England in the early 1800's to Annapolis and began raising tobacco. They still own tobacco farms in Maryland and Virginia to this day. They fought in the War of 1812, and every war since, probably on both sides of the Civil War, all the way through Viet Nam. The Star Spangled Banner has always held a special place in my heart for this reason. Beautiful rendition, brought tears to my eyes.
