(29,644 posts)plug it in, it was just a black screen. and didn't even indicate I had plugged it in, where before when it was low it would show at least that it had life. Tonight, NOTHING. JUST A BLACK SCREEN.

Lesson learned-- don't use a dollar store usb cable for charging.

(43,049 posts)sure it's off. Then turn in back on.
Next trick is to swipe from the top down and you might see the screen brightness bar, which you slide to the right.
If nothing works, call customer service or take it back to the store you got it from and ask for help.
Both Motorola and Boost have been helpful when I've had phone problems. Apple I've heard good things about but don't know personally.
Have I mentioned lately how much I hate Android phones? I just won't pay for Apple. Or the supposedly really good Samsungs.

(1,351 posts)This same symptom has happened to our phones, iPhone and Samsung, at least 4x in the years we've owned phones. We've gotten good a replacing the screens and there are fairly decent ones on Amazon for around $30.
Here is the most common reason for a black screen on iPhone (it's a cut and paste from an article). I'm sure it's similar with Samsung:
How Do I Know Whether My Display Is Dislodged Or Broken?
Im hesitant to write this because it is by no means a hard and fast rule, but I have noticed a pattern in my experience working with iPhones. There are no guarantees, but my rule of thumb is this:
If your iPhone display stopped working after you dropped it, your screen is probably black because the LCD cable (display data connector) has become dislodged from the logic board.
If your iPhone display stopped working after it got wet, your screen is probably black because the LCD is broken and needs to be replaced.

(10,014 posts)I could feel the tablet turn on but the screen was black. I sent it in for repair and they replaced the screen; the battery and processor were fine.
