I love her fascination with what must be a familiar toy. Also, her amazement at the TV. nt tblue37 Aug 2020 #3

No idea how bad my eyesight was. I do have vague memories of foggy vision.

So glad to see her take right to them. What a great feeling.

Which is just as cute: possibly her first time choosing the "box" over the toy!

Didn't get glasses until the second grade. I have no idea how I made it to school and back home. I was blind as a bat! Couldn't see the Big E on the eye chart.

I remember realizing that I could actually see what was on the blackboard without squinting!
This video is adorable - her life just changed.

While waiting for the pediatrician to come into the room. I never wanted to fail a test. I finally realized at 18 that I was doing myself no favors by pretending to have perfect vision.

Just precious. A whole new world opened up for her. Daddy is so gentle with her, too.

My parents didn't realize I couldn't see. I was a serious reader from the age of three, and they wondered why I had my nose in a book. Second grade, Mom took me to the ophthalmologist and found out I was nearsighted. She said she felt really stupid. The folks had perfect vision and wore reading glasses only. I was the only nearsighted one in the family.

When they had a joke of an eye test in second grade, I kept saying "I can't see that" over and over when the lady pointed at the Es on the light box from about six or eight feet away. Nobody heard me.

Now, they have mandatory vision, hearing and speech screenings at around age 5 or six. Wish they'd had that when I was a kid. Even now, lots of kids say they can't see the board in school and nobody takes them to the doctor.

I had a cousin who was always in slow normal classes in high school. They thought she was low average in intelligence. In high school they take her to the eye doctor and find out she has a pointy cornea and needed a transplant. Her parents were both schoolteachers.
