Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThis map make no sense at all. Some Questions...
1. OK, if Munchkinland is in the west, what was the Wicked Witch of the East doing there when Dorothy's house pancaked her ass? Is east west and west east in Oz, under some strange reverse orientation rule?
2. Why did the Munchkins send Dorothy on that out of way path through the Dark Forest, Quadling Country and that narcotic field of poppies when the Emerald City was a straight shot to the east?
3. Speaking of those poppies, would it be reasonable to believe that the citizens of Oz might have a significant drug addiction problem?
4. Why is Glinda's Castle in the south with she's The Good Witch of the North, and if Dorothy was going that way, why didn't Glinda give her a lift in her bubble?
5. There's no direct route from the Emerald City to Winkie Land. How did they get there and back so easily?
6. Why doesn't anyone ever talk about Chinatown?
7. Notice the northern path all the way to the Impassable Desert, what's the point of that?
8. The Deadly Desert is the only place adjacent to beach front property. Isn't that a waste of valuable real estate?
9. The Winkies, who are the Wicked Witch of the West soldiers are in the north east, shouldn't they be in the west with their boss?
10. Who else believes that Glinda hatched a scheme to use Dorothy to take out all of her rivals, both Wicked Witches and The Wizard?
Bonus question: Why hasn't anyone ever mentioned the whereabouts of the Good Witch of The South? If Oz has a reverse orientation, the Good Witch of the South's castle should be somewhere in Gillikin Country, but nothing is there.

(3,621 posts)Obviously this is a smart-phone googligoo (sic) map display, viewed from the inside of the screen.
For the other nine questions, I've got nothing.

(3,595 posts)Supposedly it started on a farm in Kansas. Dorothy was a farm girl from Kansas who traveled.

the vortex of the flying house, ending up trapped underneath.
2. Obviously Dorothy and her crew took a wrong turn at crossroads, turning south instead of east. Scarecrow was not very helpful with directions, if you'll recall.
3. You must have noticed clear signs of drug abuse among the singing Munchkins. In fact, the whole population seems to be skipping their way through life with a silly grin on their faces...
4. The real estate bubble burst and she had to move to a more affordable neighborhood? The bubble was in the shop for repairs?
5. Clearly a wormhole is involved.
6. Chinatown plays a major role in a sequel in the series.
7. There's a wormhole at the end of that path on the edge of the desert.
8. Munchkins and other folk in the Land of Oz are cautious about overexposure to the sun because everyone knows the ozone layer is thinner above Oz.
9. No, the Winkies are lower economic underlings fated to live on the other side of the tracks.
10. Good catch. There are no "good" witches. Glinda dresses like a 5-year-old Shirley Temple to hide the fact she's an evil witch.
Bonus Q:"She got caught in a serious embezzlement scandal and had to leave the country.

(434 posts)I can confirm that East and West are reversed there.
Check out the simple compass rose in the upper right-hand corner. I think the map shown in the original post is a compilation of many sources. The books are very different from the movie(s) and musicals.
- Glinda is the Good Witch of the South and doesn't show up until the end of the first book.
- The Good Witch of the North is in chapter 2 and doesn't get a name until later books.
- The first book (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz) has The Dainty China Country (Chapter 12).
- The Winkies are in the West (reversed map) and were enslaved by the WWW.
(I know this is all tongue in cheek, but as a literalist with mild Asperger's, I can't stand it.)
