If you need to store chicken for longer than a few days, it's best to store it in your freezer. Raw chicken pieces can be stored in the freezer for up to 9 months, while a whole chicken can be frozen for up to one year. Cooked chicken can be stored in the freezer for 2–6 months

It's how long it was thawed and then refrozen.

I couldn't say how many times that chicken may have been thawed and then, welp, we're going to fix something else for dinner, so toss it back in the freezer....

Long time ago I learned to never refreeze meat that's been frozen and then thawed. Maybe in Home Ec.
