"La Llorona," commemorates a tragic and frightening Mexican folkloric figure.

There was a scene in the film "Frida" in which the artist has a vision of La Llorona after a night of drinking. Chavela Vargas, who is seen singing the song in the film, was actually a close friend of the late Frida Kahlo in real life.

There is a more light-hearted rendition of La Llorona in Disney's "Coco", which takes place on the Day of the Dead.

Thanks to the virus , Day of the Dead is not going to be like it was. But hey, can still celebrate with my DU family!

even though I might be doing so without the usual communion with family and friends or the community at large this year. I can and will decorate my house, play traditional music, and prepare traditional food for the special holidays, as I try my best to stay healthy by following best practices as recommended by the scientific community. I hope you bake that bread! The Day of the Dead has a special meaning this year, as so many more have crossed over due to covid.
