From where do you hail?

I make my own fruitcake with dried pineapple, papaya, apricots, dates, raisins, pecans and walnuts. It gets wrapped in cheese cloth then soaked in Capt Morgan’s for 3 weeks. It’s more Capt Morgan’s Spice Island Christmas Cake than fruitcake.

In the Southeastern United States this delicacy is treasured, and it beats any chunky, bitter, barely-digestible “real” cranberry “salsa” produced and served elsewhere. Yes, it’s bottom-of-the-line, disgusting, cheap food, but, for me and mine, Thanksgiving would not be complete without it.

Last year our regular restaurant prepared a big gringo dinner.
One ex-pat brought along a can of cranberry sauce.

I guess that was a new one for them.
After the dinner was served and eaten, we each got a small plate with two small cubes of cranberry sauce with tooth picks in them. Like a desert appetizer.

That jelly is supposed to be served in cylindrical slices ... preferably more than one, but I do give credit to your Costa Rican hosts for trying.

They like what I call the "canned crap." Me ex is the only one I know who likes it. It sucks because I make a good cranberry sauce and I do not get to share it.

I understand why one friend does not like it because of his dentures.

Can't believe how many people think eggnog automatically comes loaded.

Besides, it makes exquisite French toast!

In the dairy case. When I was little and we visited the grandparents every Christmas, Grandma used to order it from the milkman and we’d all share it Christmas Eve after dinner. I’m the only one in the family that likes it and I treat myself to a quart of it every year.

It used to be his favorite snack.

I used to make a fancy celery and oyster soup every year for Thanksgiving, but haven’t for a few because too many vegans and young children at my table.

This year, I made Brussels sprouts cooked in apple cider vinegar with caramelized shallots.

We’re sort of on the same food track 🤗

I like it as a standalone dish, and serve with a plate of chopped up garlic toast to soak up the juices. Stewed tomatoes with a little hot sauce makes a delicious accompaniment to grilled cheese sandwiches.

38. Pistachio Pudding Salad AKA Watergate Salad
Sat Nov 28, 2020, 09:30 PM
Nov 2020

It's similar to Ambrosia Salad and it's a versatile recipe, so the recipe maker can make it how they want to.

I use to mix 16 oz. of cottage cheese, 8 oz. of cool whip and a package of dry instant pistachio pudding mix, refrigerate and served it just like that.

The cottage cheese can be omitted, 20 oz. of drained crushed pineapple can be added, and 1.5 Cups of miniature marshmallows can be added, sugar free dry instant pudding mix can be used, and fat free cool whip can be used.

I also happen to like canned jellied cranberry sauce.
