Am I the only one who thinks it's silly to start threads with "Am I the only one?"

I see it quite often in General Discussion.

This isn't verbatim, but I've noticed thread titles like: "Am I the only one who thinks Donald Trump is a scuzzy waste of skin?"

Why, yes! Yes, you are the only one! Thanks for asking! The rest of us have been singing Donald Trump's praises all this time but now your thread gives us reason to step back and reassess our bootlicking.

Just a little rant I had to get off my chest.

Am I the only one who thinks responding to a post with “This!” is one of the laziest ways of interacting?

Ok, I guess I should lighten up, because some of my favorite DUers do this (and “+1,” which I do from time to time) is no more admirable.

Anyway, yes, you are the only one.

So I don't see it as laziness, just a limitation of the DU format.

Don't know how we ended here
I thought for a second
That you and me were in the clear
You say that you mean it, but why can't I feel it?
I used to be where you would go
I'm tired of the waiting
And I really need to know
So tell me, am I the only one
Laying sleepless until the dawn?
Whenever you are gone
I'm thinking, am I the only one?
'Cause baby, everything you don't say
Is killing a part of me (killing a part of me)
When everything's said and done
Tell me, am I the only one?
Am I the only one
Am I, am I the only one
Am I, am I the only one
Oh, baby tell me
Am I the only one
Am I, am I the only one
Tell me, am I the only one?
I'm stuck in the middle (yeah)
Avoiding a wrecking ball
I search for the answer (yeah)
I don't really want to…

No, you are not the only one. It’s just an expression people use to start a conversation. Sometimes people feel alone and seek validation or just want to talk to others of like mind. Nothing wrong with that, especially during a pandemic. It can annoy people. That being said, am I the only one who gets a little annoyed when someone posts an OP making a short remark about something they are seeing on TV without providing any context whatsoever? Nope, didn’t think so!
