I've been with Teh Dish for 20+ yrs (started before Dish with Turner Vision, then Echo, etc.), but that doesn't matter. Almost every year I think about doing something else, but they keep saying they're the cheapest and best/most responsive. It's always irritating not to be able to have a la carte, am stuck "above" Basic because a couple of the news channels and something like IFC are in the next tier up. So my "Favorites" menu has only about 30 items while a hundred things are blocked out. And I don't know whether Dish is better or worse for Customer Service than the MURDOCH-owned DirecTV or cable conglomerates, but the phone personnel have been especially bad at answers about billing and the dates of things. But there have been tiny few outtages in all the years.
So this morning Dish was "giving away" a few days of Encore and while fixing that up, I saw that IFC was disappeared. So was AMC that I seldom/never look at.
So here's the Chat, summary: "We are Goliaths in close combat, you pipsqueak!1"::

Moi: Hello. I just noticed today that IFC and AMC are gone from my programming. Things like IFC are the main reason I pay for more than Basic. What's happening?
DISH: I will help you with the IFC and AMC channel information. The channels AMC Networks forces us to deliver -- WE, IFC and AMC -- do not give our customers the best content at the best value. We have permanently removed them from the DISH line up as of June 30. DISH is not alone. AT&T recently pointed out that AMC Networks simply doesnt deliver sufficient value for customers for the prices charged. AMC Networks has further devalued its programming by making its handful of popular shows available to consumers via iTunes, Netflix and Amazon.com. This means that AMC Networks wants us to pay many millions of dollars for content that is available to our subscribers the next day for just a couple of dollars. We are open to a creative proposal from AMC Networks that would resolve this situation, but at this point it looks like the channels will be down permanently.

(68,644 posts)Not that some of these channels were all that special: Planet Green was beginning to recycle shows from Discovery/History/whateverthefuck-conglomerate-suckfest they were a part of.
Fucks.

(3,975 posts)I'm calling tomorrow morning to cancel my Dish Network subscription.
The call after that will be to my local cable outfit to schedule an installation.
