Or as I like to call it - the afternoon nap.
Sorry, this was what they gave the Oscar? I mean was it over the guilt that for years they never gave it to any of Charlie Chaplin's movies? I think I'd rather watch a bowel movement than to sit thru that movie again.

(47,675 posts)I didn't expect that at all. We took off at least half of the top before pulling it back into place. It's alive and well and giving me shade.

he's a QT.

(23,272 posts)even the shortie legged ones. They do require a ton of outdoor time and need to keep busy like a border collie or they get into mischief.
I love them all and have always had at least one in my menagerie at all times.

(95,337 posts)Where is Lassie or how about Eddie from the show 'Frasier'. That dog did the same cuteness for almost 10 years.

(6,787 posts)My husband liked it. I really couldn't watch it.
The actors were very appealing and of course I loved the dog...but I was bored out of my skull. Thank heavens for Talkies.

(95,337 posts)So I swore I would just love 'The Artist'
But I didn't.
It was ok at best
My guess is that guy who played the lead and won the Oscar is probably going to end up with the same career path as that guy from Italy in "Life is Beautiful" - two men lucky to have found one amazing part but the rest of their acting career will be just mediocre.

(2,431 posts)Best Bond parodies ever.
Same team that made The Artist, which I liked. it should not have won Best Picture, however.

(28,394 posts)I thought it was cute... and I loved the dog.
It all seemed very predictable though! I saw a couple of the other Oscar nominees... Did you have a different pick for Best Picture?
OmahaBlueDog
(10,000 posts)Cute. Predictable. Great dog. No way it should have won best picture. To me it came off as something like what you'd get if you crossed 1969's "The Comic" and "Singin' In the Rain." It had lots of clever cinematography, but went down a very well worn Hollywood trail.
Lest we forget -- here was the list of other nominees:
The Descendants Jim Burke, Jim Taylor, and Alexander Payne
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close Scott Rudin
The Help Brunson Green, Chris Columbus, and Michael Barnathan
Hugo Graham King and Martin Scorsese
Midnight in Paris Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum
Moneyball Michael De Luca, Rachael Horovitz, and Brad Pitt
The Tree of Life Dede Gardner, Sarah Green, Grant Hill, and Bill Pohlad
War Horse Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy
I still say "Moneyball" should have won.
LynneSin
(95,337 posts)he was 1000% better than the guy in 'The Artist'. Ten years from now Brad Pitt will still be churning out great movies and that guy in 'The Artist' will probably be doing some b-movie buddy flick with the guy who won the Oscar from 'Life is Beautiful'
OmahaBlueDog
(10,000 posts)"The King's Speech" over "The Social Network" 2010
"The Artist" over "Moneyball" in 2011
Her hypothesis: Oscar seems more inclined to reward films idealizing the past over films dealing with contemporary issues.
Maybe it's backlash from "Crash" and "The Hurt Locker" wins?
I'd have given the Oscar to Pitt or Clooney over Jean Dujardin. Hell, I'd have given the Oscar to the dog over Jean Dujardin.

(42,770 posts)best pic of all time. Pros- original, interesting setting (RI islands), cutesy, Bruce Willis very good.
Cons: no depth, no character development - not one iota
