(36,416 posts)That's got to be out in the boonies. Did Garcia move with his mom or stay in the city? Spill with it, where did his mom move to?

Brother Buzz
(36,416 posts)Seems like Kentfield always gets the most rain, but it's under an hour from the City. They used to have some wicked floods, too, until the realigned and engineered the creek. Hell, where else can you water ski on a football field?

(36,416 posts)And it's the boonies! I'm guessing Jerry hated it. Garcia was cool with the outdoors as long as he has his creature comforts, and, well, creature comforts are in short supply in Cazadero. I haven't been there in decades, and I guess it's changed, but when I was there, it was like stepping back into the thirties or forties. Perfect location for a period film.

(27,792 posts)What Garcia hated the most was the 45 minute-long bus ride from Cazadero to Sebastopol where he went to high school (and 45 minute-long bus ride back home to Cazadero)
(One time I almost rented a house in Cazadero...I love that place....all forest)

He was the only one in the band I could think of who would be a good fit for PHC.
I just finished re-reading Star-Making Machinery, about Cody making an album in the 70s, by Geoffrey Stokes, which is highly recommended for anyone with an interest in the music business.
https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/a/geoffrey-stokes/star-making-machinery/
In looking the book up, I just learned that Stokes also wrote about food under the nom de plume Vladimir Estragon. I have cherished my copy of Waiting For Dessert - AND my copy of Star-Making Machinery - for decades, and had no idea that Vladimir Estragon was, indeed, Geoffrey Stokes.

(27,792 posts)McGuinn got paid $35/week & worked at the Brill Building in NYC
Brother Buzz
(36,416 posts)The Brill Building is ALWAYS mentioned in the recording industry footnotes, but I knew squat about it and started investigating.
It's fair to say the Brill Building was the center of the music universe until it incrementally moved to Southern California. Session drummers, in particular, always talked about the East Coast (Brill Building) beat, contrasting it to what the West Coast studios started pumping out.
