They'd get a crack on one side and I'd cut my tongue.

Didn't happen always, but it did happen sometimes.

I love them too, especially Brach's.

I see them in Walmart or drug stores. My problem is I like to chew them. That was OK when I was younger, but these old teeth have a tendency to crack and break now.

No other wild cherry flavor comes close. They're the best!

Cherry sometimes but I even liked the hardcore mentho-lyptus kind ... Halls, or the triangular Vicks that came in the green rectangular box.

Sometimes I'd eat cough drops with peppermint or cinnamon gum too.

The little ones. But I used to chew them up, now I have a lot of crowned teeth so I don't allow myself to eat candy anymore.

With myself to not eat hard candy anymore and if I do eat any, like a Reese's peanutbutter cup once or twice a year, I have to brush my teeth right away and that's the rule.

I seem to be okay when I make rules for my behavior in order to avoid complications later. It works as long as I'm the one who makes the rules!

Butterscotch is a close second.

The two flavors are so different that it's kind of hard to compare them, though.

my mother always had them in her purse

Other favorites: Werther's Originals and lemon drops

As my mom got older, she developed an addiction to Werther's

One day my sister picked up our mom's presumably empty purse, only to find it weighed about 4 pounds.
We couldn't figure out until she felt around and found there was a hole in the lining, which allowed the Werthers to slip down between the lining and the purse. There was nearly a whole bag of candy in there!

They're basically the same as regular JR's but a little bit softer so don't last FOREVER, and they're stronger and more sour.

Cherry and Green Apple in particular.

I also like old school Red Hots ... like 15 at a time.

We used to get it at the country store where they sold all that penny candy and put it in those tiny paper bags. We used to stop there with our grandfather when he went into the village to do Saturday stuff.

Then, after he passed, we learned how to make it at home.

Mango is my favorite, but I also like the pineapple and melon, too. Not too sweet and they taste just like the natural fruit. Since I had to cancel my trip back there because of the pandemic, I've had to order them online.

Like taking cubes of sweetened espresso, and wrapping them individually.

Made in the Netherlands, but should be available in the States by now. The best are made by Rademakers, and come in a square shaped tin.

My Aunt and Uncle always had those in a candy dish at their house.
My uncle loved Reeds Peppermint candies. They were quite strong.
I like Regal Crown Sour Cherry candies, but they are hard to find.

3/4 cup Karo Syrup
2 cups sugar
1 dram bottle Lorann candy oil flavor
A little bit of gel food coloring

Put the corn syrup on the stove and heat until it’s the consistency of water. Start adding the sugar a little at a time until it’s all in and dissolved. Stop stirring at this point because it stirs itself. Continue heating to 260 degrees and add the color and flavor. At 285 take it off the heat and pour into oiled hard candy molds.

The official recipe says to use 3/4 cup water and to heat to 310 degrees. I use no water because the mix boils over at 212 degrees if you do, and I use the lower temperature because the product caramelizes and turns brown if you go to 310. It’s much prettier at 285 and still plenty hard.
