A visit from the Sheriff is not the best way to start the day.

Our terrier goes wild when he sees bunnies, chipmunks, cats or other dogs.

One of the neighbors was concerned that my husband was abusing the pup.

After the Sheriff met our little bundle of barks, he said "I understand. He's just very active."

They can say it to my face. We can have a discussion about what happened.

about your dog's welfare to make the call.

Better to be sure than to do nothing, and allow actual abuse to be happening.

Sorry you got an undeserved visit from LEO. Not knowing your neighbor, they may be a-holes. Maybe you've had ongoing issues with them. So I may not be looking at this incident through the correct lens.

As your neighbor, I am surprised they don't know you and your dog well enough to know there was no abuse.

Have a neighborly discussion with them and thank them nicely for their concern for animals. It serves no one to further increase any tensions that may currently exist.

That's my take, but in the end, you need to deal with it the way you see best.

I usually do try to smooth things over.

One woman living down that way seems to have taken a dislike to my husband.

I suggested walking our dog up the hill, away from her home.

That should give everyone a chance to cool down.

Thanks for the explanation. The dislike may have come from her thinking he was abusing the dog.

Your approach sounds reasonable.

I reported a neighbor for animal abuse once. Cops didn't care. Guy was Throwing his German Shepherd puppy against the wall. Cop said "your neighbor said he was just playing with the dog".

That wasn't what was happening. I could hear the dog screaming in pain.
