At least that's what is showing up on my caller id. Seems an unfortunate name for someone likely trying to sell me something.

(9,895 posts)Just for fun I let them transfer me to a broken English scam and then I act super crazy to give them everything by saying "OH MY GOD....what should I do???? Do I just give you my passwords or can I let you take control of my PC instead? Will you please send someone out to guard my windows?"
Most of the time they hang up, but 100% of the time they are completely taken by surprise and don't know what to do...

(34,120 posts)And take all my bad mood out on them. "Last chance" my ass - this is your fifth call this WEEK! Similar crap like that. I figure I can shovel all that onto a bot and not feel guilty. And it keeps me from taking stuff out on my husband so it adds to our marital peace.
I did let loose on a Social Security scammer the other day. He started in on how my SS # had been found with "illegal transactions" and I just laughed at him. First, I told him Social Security NEVER calls - they send letters. SS doesn't do "transactions" I yelled over his objections. Then I got personal as to how he is a slimy little crook andn what he should do to himself. That's about the time he hung up.

(14,233 posts)Why it isn't a felony to spoof phone numbers is a mystery to me. I even had someone call me and accuse me of harrassing them. I hadn't used my phone all day, so someone was using my number to make spam calls.

(26,177 posts)Which COMPLETELY freaked me out, because no good call ever comes from a hospital, at night. So I grabbed the phone - it was a pre-recorded scam sales call. It took me almost an hour to slow down my heart and breathing, from the initial panic and the follow up rage.

(8,445 posts)Sometimes I answer, and sometimes I don't. If it's really spam, I wait to see if it gives a prompt to no longer receive calls from that number, and I also block it.
I've been on the Do Not Call registry, so I shouldn't get those calls.
Side note: My ex-husband's name in my phone is "SUSPECTED SPAM TOXIC (name) DON'T RESPOND". It helps me stick to the no contact plan.

(14,270 posts)There are slightly different consent rules for land lines and cell phones (express written consent vs express consent). But they need to have a prior business relationship with you in order to call if youre on the Do Not Call list.
My guess is that they spoof the calling number and call in violation of the law anyway.

(8,445 posts)I have never done business with that company, so I figured it was just phishing.
One time I said "yes" so they'd put me through. I asked them what vehicle they had on their records because I own more than one. It was fun playing that game for a few minutes. I finally told them to remove me from their list, and of course they did not. I've gotten dozens of "final notice" calls, and mailings too. I think the FINAL final notice will never come.
Honestly, though, I can't be truly rude to one of those representives. I don't like their choice of a job, but I figure they're just trying to pay their own bills. I witnessed my now-ex-husband be an asshole to people on the phone and in real life, and I don't want to be that kind of person.

(8,445 posts)I just discovered that there's actually a "Report" button right there on my phone when I get one of those calls. I don't know if it did any good to click it, but I did.
