Kind of upset with my mother

My mother (79) lives with me. For the last year, I did EVERYTHING that involved going out into the public. Why? To keep her (and myself) as safe from getting Covid as was possible. I wore the mask, disinfected my hands and car, wear gloves, and limited my outings to just going to the grocery store or pharmacy.

So mom got her second shot about a month ago now, and I am still trying daily to get an appointment for mine. I'm 59, and have COPD, and Lupus. So I'm vulnerable.

What did I just see her doing? Talking (unmasked) to an (unmasked) neighbor. She was about 2-3 feet from him.

It just really hurts. She got very defensive when I asked her about it later. I have read reports both ways, as to whether or not someone with a vaccine can still carry the infection. Seems like there is no definitive one way or the other.

So it just kind of hurts my feelings that she gave me zero consideration when she started gabbing with our neighbor.

Oh, and I pay all the bills around here too. And I lost my job in March. Maybe I'm being over sensitive.

1. I can see why you are upset

Did she say would not do it again? It was thoughtless and now that it has been brought to her attention, will she change her behavior?

7. She did

She felt bad. Then I felt bad for expressing it so strongly. We generally treat each other very well.

I just needed to come here to vent I guess.

3. Your not over sensitive.

You need to calmly tell your mom she could get you sick.

I feel your pain, I really do.

4. Even if she was defensive

The message may have gotten through to her. If not, be firm.

You really should be able to get shots now. Everyone over 50 is eligible.

I think I just needed to vent.

I check multiple websites every day, including myturnca.gov, and have not been able to get an appointment yet. I will keep trying. Once it opens up to everyone (after March 15) it is probably going to be even harder to get an appointment.

I am rural, I don't live by a big city.

5. Getting both your shots and passing the waiting period after is no guarantee you can't still catch

COVID. I have both of my shots and am past the waiting period but I still wear a mask when out talking with others. I'm cautious and will remain that way for a while until I can feel confident enough to take a chance.

You have considerations to think of, so I can't blame you for being upset.

Good luck!

6. You have every right to feel the way you do.

I hope that despite her defensiveness she doesn’t do it again.

11. Code Red until you get vaccinated. Then three weeks after your,...

... second shot until your immune system has built antibodies.

So much depends on how many people allow themselves to be vaccinated,.. as to when we let our guard down.

Keep an eye on the variants an if the vaccines are able to fight the newer strains off.
