Having spent a lot of time in a soft drink warehouse, no way that could be planned. I'd bet you have to drop 1,000, maybe 10,000 bottles to see this reaction. Then, to have it land somewhere specific....maybe need 1,000,000 or more. It's just too rare and random for that guy to have any idea what would happen when it hit the ground.

Gotta wonder if someone dosed the bottle or bottles as a prank...and by coincidence this one happened to drop. The combination of the cap being loosened and the pressure from the mentos reaction would easily pop to cap if it fell. 3-4 mentos is probably all it took.

I'm sure the plan was that some unsuspecting person would take the bottle home and it would spray the room when they tried to open it.

ps - a hidden benefit of covid, without that plastic the clerk may have ended up with a broken nose or worse.
