I went to Dollar Tree for the first time in over a year.

I didn't think it was possible to spend $50 there, but I managed to do it!

1. Buy it before they raise the price to $1.20 or $1.50

3. They just make the contents smaller

Used to get 50 snack bags in a pack, now 40. Or 20 gallon size, now 13. (I put 3 portions in each pack, and reuse the storage bags as many times as I can.

I wondered what they would call it eventually, but I think they'll just keep making the packages smaller and smaller. We will soon pay $1 for a bite of a snack, or a dose of pills

9. I wrote to StarKist when they made the cans of tuna smaller (again).

They used to be 7 oz. then 6.5, then 6, then 5. Overnight, industry-wide, every time. I called and asked them how long it would be before we are buying 1 oz. cans of tuna. Her response? "Oh sir, we took out mostly water." I see, cuz water is so expensive that you cut the amount of water to save money. Right. When tea makers cut teabags from 24 to 20 a package, I called Bigelow and complained. "Oh sir" she said. "Our customers told us they wanted more conv-eeeeenient packaging."

14. I read in a science mag years ago

Some guy came up with the smaller bag concept and industry loved it. Used to get a pound in a can, now it is 14.5 oz. Used to be 12 oz of chocolate chips, now 11 ozs. and so on. I hardly buy any processed food, for health and for the reduced sizes. Glad you complained

17. Not that it did much good.

As I recall, Bigelow sent me a coupon for $1.00 off or a free box or something.

19. When the size goes down or price goes up on a product I use

I stop buying it, at least until I feel like my own sense of inflation and fairness justify the change.

I've been boycotting items since I was a teen

2. I was fully vaccinated back in April

I went inside my local HEB the first time in a year (we have been using curbside) and was amazed at some of the changes

4. Alot of stores are low on stock.

Especially supermarkets. Something as simple as margarine or bread can be short stocked. I hope they get more stock soon.

16. I got an Aldi delivery today.

The Instacart driver said the stores are having trouble stocking pet food, produce and another thing. I saw yesterday that there is a shortage of employees, shortage of truck drivers, and so on.

5. I went for the 1st time since Nov. 8th

Same staff, got almost all of the things I needed. It was mask compliant last week. I stopped back in for markers and grad cards, and it wasn't as compliant. So, I'm done. It'll be another 6 months or longer before I go back.

8. You must have bought out the whole store

My sister, the coupon queen, has been hitting the Dollar Generals in our city and nearby ones. Things routinely "penny out" in their system, and staff is supposed to remove that stuff from the floor but often don't so if you find it, they have to sell it to you. She's shown up at my apartment cackling with glee on more than one occasion to show me her haul. Once she showed up with 80 toddler pajama sets which cost $0.80. She donates a lot of the stuff to charities. For her it's about the hunt.

10. I spent $30 there a week or so ago...

Some things are actually more expensive than regular stores, and others are really cheaply made and shoddy, but there's still enough good stuff in there to make a trip worthwhile.

The dollar bags of coffee bounce up and down in the amount of coffee in them, but it still usually comes down to under 3 bucks a pound. I got a really nice dinner set there for a buck a piece. And they have the best paper bags out there-- they have handles and don't fall apart like Target or Walmart.

11. I happen to like a few of their photo frames.

Because their so cheaply made, I have to be extremely careful with them. I've broken some of them as soon as I got the photo inserted into the frame and went to put the hinges into place to hold it all in place.

12. I just got back from the grocery store

It was the first time since March of last year - 14 months!

It looked the same, had the same stuff, and just about the same prices! The only person I saw without a mask was a guy who was returning his cart to the corral as I pulled into my parking space. It was down covering his chin only. The staff was cheerful and helpful. Customers kept physically distanced. I had a great time.

For those in the greater Las Vegas area, it was the Winco on Stephanie in Henderson. It's my favorite grocery store.

13. There was a Dollar General a block from my downtown apartment.

I can't tell you how many huge bars of $1. dark chocolate I bought there. I told myself I'd only have one square/night.

15. Hah! I know better than to believe the lies

that I tell myself about how much chocolate I will eat.

I just buy the smallest quantity and get out of there fast, before that liar in my head speaks up.

18. well that explains why my wife insists on going to the dollar store alone

She knows if I'da known they have candy I'd spend all our dollars there.

I thought they just had cups and plates and dumb decorative things because that's all she ever brought out!

20. I like going to the Dollar Store

You don't have to get dressed up like you do for Wal-Mart.

I heard the other day that the British equivalent of Dollar city was Pound Town.
