Skittish Kitty strikes a pose

BIG breakthrough, today. Got to within about 3 feet of her but knew not to push it. I also put out a little wet food and it was a HUGE hit. Guess I know what I'll be adding to my shopping list - LOTS more canned cat food.

She does seem to be hanging around the yard a whole lot more, lately. I'm going to move the shelter to the area next to the house, and under a high shrub, that seems to be her go-to hiding place. And keep in mind, I'm just assuming it's a female. Being within 3 feet of a front facing cat who is 'breadloafing' makes gender identity pretty tricky.

Anyway, here's Skittish Kitty's latest photo.

2. It was so funny watching her eat that wet food

She kept popping up her head to make sure no other feral was in the area - Spooky sometimes sneaks up and takes over - and then she'd be right back at practically inhaling the food. Then I put down some more wet food, at about 3 feet distance from me and she eventually ate that, too. Somehow I think I could have held out my hand, with wet food piled on it, and she might have climbed up in my lap. Or, perhaps I'm exaggerating a bit. But it was definitely the closest she's come. And I'm now getting lots of slow blinks, which I return, in kind.

3. We use sardines for trapping and as treats for others. In oil or water, unflavored.

5. I woman here who works with ferals said to use something with a strong odor

So I used canned tuna to bring my previous cat inside - it took a have-a-heart trap from the animal hospital where the feral cat lady worked.
