and it was established at the time that quoting up to 4 paragraphs of published material was fair use.

My eyesight i bad so I don't read walls of text and I don't click on blind links, either.

Sticking to the 4 paragrph limit is usually easy enough (except for the BBC, where they don't know there's a difference between a sentence and a paragraph) and usually a source will yield at least one operative paragraph to give an idea what the article is about.

I think they are public so often excerpt more. Is that ok? I’d stop immediately if not.

if you quote an article or oped from another site or a media outlet, for copyright reasons you should not cut and paste more than 4 paragraphs of the original text.

If you're just typing your own thoughts and words, well, have at it.

Democratic Underground reserves the right to (1) review the allegedly infringing material and independently determine whether it is infringing; (2) publicly display a copy of your DMCA notice; and (3) forward the notice to the person who provided the allegedly infringing content.

Please also be advised that in appropriate circumstances we terminate repeat infringers.
