Pushed the patient count for the day to twenty-six...

I recently discovered one from Scotland called Raffles, and it's amazing. I always use either Q or Fever Tree for the tonic.

I make WONDERFUL gin and tonics. My secret is I put the ice in the glass, then squeeze the lime onto the ice. Then the gin, then the tonic. I'm famous with a very small group of people for my gin&tonics.

...Chandragupta in exchange for 500 war elephants was preferable to continuing the Seleucid–Mauryan War?

Do you think that Seleucid should have at least asked his daughter first?

Finally, is it ethical, do you think, to trade one daughter for 500 war elephants?

Do these three questions qualify as asking you "anything?" Do they distract you from the day you had?

...portion of the Macedonian Empire, plus much of Anatolia, modern Turkey . Chandragupta controlled what is now modern Pakistan/Afghanistan/Western India.

It is said that Chandragupta was able to conscript 600,000 soldiers, but it's difficult to know if this is accurate.

It could have been a very messy affair. On the other hand, it is said that Alexander himself had a breakdown after meeting a naked Jain, for whom possessions didn't matter, causing Alexander to realize he didn't matter.

It's hard to say how many of Chandragupta's soldiers might have been pacifists.

In any case, Chandragupta did marry Seleucid's daughter and consequently got along with his new father-in-law. I don't know how she felt about it though. Maybe she was happy with the whole thing. On the other hand, maybe she wished she was a war elephant.

I have no idea how the 500 war elephants felt about all of this. It's a pretty tough job, war elephant. Hannibal made those poor elephants cross the Alps, and it's cold up there.

So she most likely did not see the arrangement as unusual. She may have been pleased to have stopped a war.
And 500 war elephants is a good bride price, she may have liked that.

She may have been content if her husband was a good, kind man. And she had a decent home to raise her children.

The concept of marrying for love is a modern invention.

Most of us Americans don't realize that even today, many people around the globe still have arranged marriages.
And studies show that these marriages are just as happy as love matches.

They don't, in general, seem to have much problem with it.

For some of them; real love actually develops.

This said, I prefer the modern approach. My wife's parents would have never consented for her to marry me if they had veto power; and they would have never chosen me, since my family was of a lower class than hers.

My marriage is the most magnificent thing in my life; I can't imagine I would have survived without my wife.

Back in my boxed wine days, I just had one wine glass to drink it from. Now I’ve got a whole cupboard full of good wine glasses. But I still have some nostalgia for some Franzia in my “favorite” (only) wine glass.

Since I am retired now, I don't dress up much.

I figure that my blue paper masks go quite well with sweat pants.
