Going to my son's LIVE graduation on Monday!!!!

He graduated early, in December, but stayed on for some graduate work, but the university, in light of the vaccinations, has decided to have a live graduation, parents and family, for his class. (There are no mid-year ceremonies.)

The 2020 graduates were not so lucky. We saw some poor young woman on cancer, in robes, last summer, standing alone with her parents for pictures.

I would like to thank the President of the United States for allowing this to happen.

We visited our son at the end of last month. He didn’t want to do the official commencement ceremony but we did go to a couple of honors graduation events.

It’s such a great feeling!

I hope you and your wife had a wonderful time at the graduation today. (I just came across this post a couple days after you put it up).

Which son is this, the one involved in the arts or the one who is studying science?

The artist graduated two years ago, and is working now, but considering a graduate degree.

Other than falling in love with my wife, who made all this possible in tens of thousands of little ways, and of course, many big ways, seeing my two sons arrive at manhood has brought me more joy than I possibly could have deserved.

My son, the new graduate is staying on for a year of free graduate school - and although I would have no problem with him staying on for a Ph.D. there - I would like him to see another institution, perhaps an Ivy, but if he stays that's fine too, his advisor is an excellent science and an outstanding mentor.

He gave me a tour of his lab this weekend, and showed me many instruments of which I had little or no knowledge, explained his research, and introduced me to many of his fellow engineering graduates, including his 5 housemates, all excellent students, four engineers and a physicist.

We had wonderful dinners, the four of us, him, his mother, his brother, and I, plus his girlfriend, a wonderful young woman.

This was one of the best three day weekends of my life. After this, whenever I die, I will feel fulfilled.

Thanks for asking.

Yes, we did our son's graduation last year in the front yard with our dogs in attendance. Cute pictures but it's not the same as the real thing.

Enjoy!!!!
