Think you could ever eat cicadas?

Apparently some people do. I'd have a hard time swallowing that!

They are the gateway bug into the intoxicatingly crunchy world of insect eating. After lying dormant for nearly 20 years, the cacophonous Brood X cicadas have finally emerged on the East Coast.

But this time around, the most adventurous among us won’t be satisfied merely hearing the deafening critters — some are preparing to cook these trending buggers up like a terrestrial crawfish boil.

“You wanna eat the females, because they’re full of eggs,” Gene Kritsky, author of “Periodical Cicadas: The Brood X Edition,” told The Post. Ditching the tired just-like-chicken comparison, he analogized their flavor to something more like “cold asparagus.”

Now, a small but hungry crowd of intrepid epicures are headed toward the forests of the East Coast and Midwest to catch the insects which only emerge every 17 years. The creative cooks are generating an intriguing buzz both online and in the flesh for the maligned pastime of bug-eating. We, too, decided to put our tastebuds to the test and sample these cyclical delicacies for ourselves. Hakuna matata, right?

Even though billions of people around the world consider insects food. Our southern neighbor, Mexico, as an example.

Real animal protein, prebiotic fiber, super high in antioxidants, ideal Omega 3:6 balance, high in B12, and much more.

Food available to just about anyone anywhere. Humane, Sustainable, and super nutritious.

Insects as food makes sense.

good and are extremely nutritious.

As I've gotten older I've been trying things I'd never eat before. Cats and dogs and horse are off the list. Actually eating less meat these days. Lots less. But a handful of cooked grubs? I'm ready.

The FDA allows so many bug parts in our manufactured food that I don't want to think about what I'm eating most of the time.

I stopped eating candy corn when I found out that the shiny outer coating is made with lac bug secretions.

I have read a number of stories over the years about people finding insects and even rodents in boxes of cereal. Even though I've long been a grown ass man, I still eat a lot of cereal. That's a whole lot of boxes over my lifetime. Even though the odds are against it, I'm still half expect the day will come when I'll peer inside my Raisin Bran and a dead mouse will be among the contents.

at least if you’re not starving and shipwrecked on a remote island, a big fat no.

If you want to do it for thrills, knock yourself out.

And do a land-office business

Fair food any more is anything you can batter and fry. Bonus points on a stick. I think these would work

And I would try it. Dammit.

Red Eyes

2 shots vodka
½ shot Campari
½ shot extra-dry vermouth
1 shot fresh orange juice

Shake the ingredients in a shaker with ice and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a couple of candied cicadas on a stick.

But I'll pass.
