Central America and microchips
We have a problem with immigrants from Central America fleeing to the United States to escape the poverty, corruption and crime in their countries.
I saw today that VP Harris is touting $300 million in support that we are sending.
I have another idea.
The US is dependent on foreign sources for our microchips. Many of these sources are potentially at risk from hostile powers, creating a national security challenge.
Why can we not manufacture chips in Central America?
This lucrative trade would bolster the economy of these poor countries, promote stable societies, and the industry would be under the protection of America's security umbrella.
It seems to me such a program would be more effective, more humane and cheaper than spending billions on walls, relocating refugees, and beefy border security. Better yet, it would be, as a money making venture, self sustaining, and could lead to other tech manufacturing.
Just spitballing here. There has to be a better solution than what we are currently doing.
