confirmation bias? (Once you felt you were being watched, and you were, so that means you can tell when you're being
watched even if you don't know there is a watcher(s).)

(46,700 posts)someone to see your typing in real time as you opened up a window to their website?
Don't we now have firewalls that prevent this?

(47,675 posts)If you have an IP address (even a shared one for a router using NAT), you can snoop on any traffic coming out of or into it. Be thee ware, for here there are dragons.

(2,165 posts)It is not now nor has it ever been possible for someone to see you typing in 'real time' as you open up a window to a website. The TCP/IP protocol doesn't work like that.
It is possible to intercept TCP/IP packets as they traverse the internet and reassemble (or even replace) them but this isn't the same as watching you type.
Firewalls have absolutely nothing to do with this. A firewall is a hardware/software device used to control access into and out of a network, server or workstation by blocking or allowing TCP/IP packets according to a set of configurable rules specifying such things as allowable ports, IP addresses, protocols, etc.

(46,700 posts)I didn't mean they could see my type, for instance, if I were writing in Word. But if I open one of their windows to, let's say, write a PM to somebody on their website.

(17,742 posts)The answer is yes, sometimes they can. It depends.
How do chameleons adapt their color/pattern to their surroundings? Can they do it with their eyes closed?
The fact is that there are cells--besides rods and cones in the retina--that can detect light and interpret it in some way.
So I'm going with: yes, people can feel being watched, although we may not yet understand the scientific basis for it.

(11,360 posts)We have more senses. You may feel you are being watched because you hear, smell, or feel the heat or vibration of another person nearby. Intuition is mostly a response to input that is too subtle to isolate.
