13. Congratulations! Serious question for you:

Since you worked so hard to get your student loan paid off, how do you feel about the idea of student dept relief? Would you feel a bit resentful seeing others walk away from the kind of dept you had to spend years paying off? Just curious; it’s a complicated issue…

19. Not in the least. I support debt-forgiveness 100%.

My only resentment would be towards the organizations that promised me a debt-payoff if I worked in an underserved clinic with an underinsured population, which I think we can agree that homeless people are.

I work with the homeless, not to pay off a debt, but because I love it. But I saw getting my loans paid off as a bonus.

Well, I applied for the loan payoff every year for seven years, and was never accepted. So I gave up and paid them off on my own.

But for anyone o coming up today who can get debt relief from the proposed program, I support 100% and power to them

25. Thank you!

And that is why we are Dems; we don’t begrudge the government helping people out just because we can’t see how it directly benefits us personally.

Again, congratulations. I’ve been dept free for about 8 years now, and, imho, it’s the best way to live.

The fact that the richest country in the world makes debt slaves of its youth is truly a national embarrassment.

Its a great feeling, eh? I finished mine off about 3 years back, and I can still catch that feeling when i am looking over my budget.

Next.. the mortgage. I expect that to be nearly as sweet.

21. Congrats. I recall Obama saying he paid off his loans after his 1st book

deal. I graduated law school in 1987 and it cost a fraction of what it cost today. Watch “Generation Wealth” on Netflix a photo journalist from LA as a college student realizes in high school in the 80s that our society has become obsessed with wealth and documents what she sees. After 30 plus years she revisits many of her classmates who were kids of famous people to see where they are today. It’s a sorry look at the results of late stage capitalism. She talks about Kate Hudson a classmate bragging about famous parents and young 12-13yo kids with wads of hundred dollar bills. The journalist was quite perceptive as she herself was an awkward teenager living amongst the 90201 crowd and the excesses she witnessed.

**correction-the documentary is free on Amazon Prime, not Netflix.

27. Serious question for the OP.

After paying your loan off, would it bother you if others had theirs forgiven and didn't have to pay? I think if others were forgiven, people in your position should also be compensated.

37. Kudos

My wife and I will never pay them off unless we live and work another 25 years. At our age it seems unlikely.

My wife is a doc who chooses to work and serve underserved populations, but has a private clinic because the 800 pound catholic health system has a stranglehold on the area. One of their board members told her that she will never be hired by them because he doesn’t like her “style” of medicine, that he doesn’t believe in it. Her retort? “It’s a good thing that medicine is fact based and not belief based. Sorry about your feelz.”

So our income is less than it should be with our debt load. She only has another 350k to pay off.

Life is interesting.

I am very happy you are paid off. Enjoy. Be well. Love life.
