It was also one of the ONLY times The Onion has ever added an editorial comment. Essentially they said that they took two weeks off to consider how to handle it and decided it was their obligation to continue doing what they do and in no way intended to be disrespectful. You can't do comedy without finding a way to make comedy out of the most tragic of situations.
