How can we muffle a 5000cc car engine to a mere whisper, but my next door neighbors lawn mower rattles my walls and nerves?

(16,692 posts)I feel like I'm living on the 9th Hole of a golf course. I've been leaving the house and just randomly driving back roads. My Prius is very quiet.

(12,904 posts)They start mowing before daylight. Last week, I saw a greens keeper get sprayed by a long, heavy blast of sprinkler water at about 7 am. He let loose a string of mighty curse words that echoed off the surrounding trees! It was funny!
But my neighbors with those blowing machines drive me crazy! Wreeeee! All day long on the weekend.

(4,366 posts)Just curious...Around here if don't have the equipment, a farmer might
do it for you...they get 2/3rds and you get the rest. After sale of course...
People with only a few acres do this. Places look really neat after a cutting...

(16,692 posts)They have giant areas of lawn. They mow so often the grass never looks like it needs cut. There are a couple neighbors behind me that mow as little as possible and this year, they could bale their grass.

(203,029 posts)Most of the neighbors here have riding mowers to constantly mow their postage stamp sized lawns. There's always someone out with mowers or chain saws, and a couple of them blast loud music while they're outside which you can hear inside or out. Almost makes me miss the winter with their snowblowers at all hours.

(23,352 posts)So only have to put up with the mowing noise one day a week, and then for only a short time as they get the homes done around me and move on down the road. They do come back later to do the edging and then the blower to get rid of the grass clippings in the driveways and walkways. But the good thing it is only once a week.
