(1,096 posts)I didn't see any beauty, just destruction!
You are twisted if you think burning buildings are beautiful.
You need help.

(41,959 posts)Fire in and of itself is beautiful and useful and powerful. It's a legitimate addition to photographic art. Some of the images here are disturbing but it doesn't mean they don't have beauty. I'm as fire respectful and responsible as you can get but I see some real beauty in the power of the element. I was terribly traumatized by Katrina but I acknowledge the beauty and power of the reflection of the clear sky in that floodwater, and the astonishing statements made by some of the photos.
Had the OP been less Beavis and Buttheadish would the comments be less reactive? Just curious.

(1,096 posts)There may be beauty in fire, but not in these particular images. These images show destruction and represent ruined lives.
Your suggestion that fire is beautiful, therefore these pictures are beautiful is no different than saying, sex is beautiful, therefore pictures of pedophilia is beautiful.
You sir are wrong!

(41,959 posts)I can show you some outstanding images of a house burning down, a house a friend of mine lived in and that I loved. But it was old, abandoned, and no harm was done. I can show you staged shots, like the one in the initial photo, that come from Christmas tree or appliance PSAs. I can show you set up shots of cars burning and people running that are stills made on movie sets. I recently saw a movie, one of the most wonderful I've ever seen, where a monk practiced self immolation. It was a terrible, tragic concept, but it was staged. And a brilliant story was told.
As I said, the OP had a glee that might imply firebug thrills, but honestly, neither of us knows what was really happeneing when those shots were taken. You and I project different things into the images. That itself is interesting. And pedophelia? No. It is certainly not the same.

(9,958 posts)Miller: I'm telling you it was his voice I heard, he was calling to me. A young bosun named Eddie Corrick. We served on the Goliath together. When the O2 tanks ruptured, four of us made it to the lifeboat but Corrick was still on board the Goliath when the fire broke out.
[to D.J]
Miller: Have you ever seen fire in zero gravity?
[D.J shakes his head]
Miller: It's beautiful. It's like liquid it... slides all over everything. Comes up in waves. And they just kept hitting him, wave after wave. He was screaming for me to save him.
D.J.: What did you do?
Miller: I did the only thing I could. I closed the lifeboat hatch, and I left him behind. I swore I'd never lose another man.
D.J.: I've known you a long time. You never told me that.
Miller: That's just it D.J, I - I never told *anybody*. But this ship knew about it! It knows my fears, it knows my secrets! Gets inside your head and... it shows you!
