Then I found it , and it was exactly where I forgot I put it yesterday.

(46,020 posts)I used to be unable to locate keys, e.g., housekeys, car keys. But I'd drop them anywhere and expect to remember their location.
I now put them in one place, and one place only, and concentrate on putting them there, and zip them closed.
No memory problems now.

(25,816 posts)When I shop at the grocery, I always park in the same area. It's sad to see old people wandering
around the parking lot pushing a cart, looking for their car. I have four pairs of glasses, one for
each place I need them.
When you lose something, you always find it in the last place you look.

(8,445 posts)I do the same as you do in parking in the same area. If I'm somewhere I don't usually go, and can't quite find my car, I walk around like a fool with my key fob in my hand, held high, until I hear my car. I wish there was a way to program it so it would hollar out, "Here I am!"

(34,131 posts)Short term memory went to hell and unless I had places for stuff like keys, I'd lose them.
Now as I get older - with yet another concussion - I am developing daily habits for routine things such as tooth brushing, showers, hair brushing, and so on. Otherwise, I worry that those will get left behind and I will forget to take care of myself.

(8,445 posts)When I go to a store I regularly go to, I always park in generally the same place. Then I don't have to be one of those people you see wandering around the parking lot looking for their car.
I had an aunt who was almost completely blind the last few years of her life. She lived in another state, and I visited her a lot to help her out, staying for a few weeks each time. She asked me to always put things back exactly where I got them from, particularly in the fridge and cupboards, so she could easily find them when she needed them. That habit has helped me a lot in staying organized.
Of course it's a lot easier now that I live alone, and it helps that I'm somewhat of a minimalist.

(16,993 posts)When you get to the store entrance turn around and spot your car. The reason we end up wandering around the parking lot is we never see where the car is parked until we are leaving. I heard this on a radio show years ago and I swear it works.

(8,445 posts)I almost always park way far from the door, so there have always been plenty of spots in the area. I figure if I do that I'm forced to at least a little bit of exercise by walking farther.
I haven't flown in a while, obviously, but when I fly out of DIA (Denver) I park in a huge lot and take the shuttle to the airport. I always write down the section and row, or whatever it is, because I know I'm not going to remember when I return from my trip.
