6. Actual 'cruit boots and bowling shoes too
On the shoe related theme, I once asked my buddy what we were doing that night. “Same as every night” he said “ looking for Birkenstock’s and low self esteem”

7. LOL! I remember that one!
I even drew a cartoon panel about it when I was a kid, because I didn't understand the insult. Oh yeah, I was an Army brat, and was surrounded by women in combat boots!

10. I haven't idea why that popped into my brain this
morning. When is the last time you thought about your cartoon about it? Guess it was an insult back then cuz women weren't in combat roles?

13. Until I saw your post, I hadn't thought about my cartoon.
I didn't understand then, and still really don't understand now, what the real insult is supposed to be. Perhaps you are are correct about it being an insult about women not being in combat roles, but I wonder if the bigger insult was meant to be it was a non-traditional role for women.

15. Yes! And women are supposed to be feminine. It had to be long before
the hippie phase where it was cool for women to wear army jackets and Boots

like footwear.
It's WWII era. A woman in an occupied country often had to do whatever necessary to survive. |

22. No worries...
...they've been dead many years, and I am at peace with where their bodies are and, more importantly, where they still live in me, for good and for bad, and I was just employing a macabre sense of humor.
In fact, I buried my mother's death, which I attended for long horrible months, with humor, some of it, on reflection, quite sick. I got better. So did my father. And then he died. Whether their remains have shoes of any type or not means nothing about them at all. All in all, she was a woman, and he was a man, and I shall not see their like again. There are many other mother related insults, of course, and when I was a kid, in the era where the "combat boots" joke was widely used, I'm sure I used some of them myself. I have told my sons that if they do not make jokes at my funeral, although I won't be there to check on it, they will not be showing my memory respect. |

step-sister sang...
Tah-Rah-Rah boom de-ay Our teacher went away. We threw her in the bay! Tah-Rah-Rah boom de-ay. I'd forgotten that but you helped me remember. "Thanks a lot", as we said back in the day in a very sarcastic way. |
