Hook, line, and stinker

Being a devoted trout angler I was disappointed when Comcast and a local fishing program parted ways. I’d enjoyed that program since, thanks to covid and climate and COPD, it’s been a couple years since I last fished. So, I surprised myself by watching a bass fishing tourney on some lake in Texas. At one point one of the contestants decided to try his luck fishing under a dock festooned with a big Trump flag. He hooked one, reeled it in, and dropped it on the floor of the boat, earning him a two-minute time out. Then the fish weighed in under the minimum and could not be counted. The fisherman plopped down onto the deck, scowling in the direction of that flag. And I laughed so hard I gave myself a charlie horse.

2. Smallmouthed bass on the rivers here are wild fighters. It's a blast fly fishing for them.

They just blow up the water hitting the fly!

ruining the trophy fishing. I don't even fish for them in the spring when they're spawning. I do like to get a couple nice bags of fillets for a fish fry every year.

The bigger ones fight like all heck, and are rather tasty too, once they are filleted, floured, and fried up in an iron skillet.
