I'm crying. I recommend this movie whole heartedly.
I feel bad it took me so long to see it.

(16,296 posts)and highly recommend it - I understand all the creatures on the liifeboat were really survivors from the storm.

(34,195 posts)If you get the DVD that shows all the extras after the movie ends, it shows how the animals were created using CGI special effects.
'LIFE OF PI' TIGER: WHAT'S REAL AND WHAT'S CGI?
Putting a teenage boy and an adult Bengal tiger together in an enclosed space, such as the 20-foot lifeboat that is one of the few settings of "Life of Pi," is a dangerous proposition. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that 17-year-old star Suraj Sharma, who played Pi, was never actually in the boat with a live tiger.
Four real tigers were used in the production, for reference and motion capture, as well as for actual pivotal scenes. Including footage of actual tigers forced the effects team to make their digital tigers look realistic enough so as to be indistinguishable from the actual tigers.
"You can't film it for real," director Ang Lee said in a making-of featurette of the need for a CGI tiger.

(86,536 posts)I was horrified by some of it and would recommend it but don't watch it alone. I did and I don't think I could watch it again even though I think it's a good movie. Too stressful.

(3,623 posts)because that was the only format my local Googleplex was showing it in. The 3D effects were quite stunning actually, so I'd recommend viewing it that way if possible.

(28,120 posts)I cried too.
And the CGI was excellent, so well done.
Some fool once said to me that she didn't want to watch a movie about a tiger and a shipwreck.
