Gotta love craigslist. Been spending a lot of time at home this past many months, so when this showed up I had to check into it. First, I emailed and asked if it has headphone jack (landlord rule), and it does. Then we determined that we're all vaxed and boostered, so I made an appointment to go look at it. I knew as soon as they answered the door that it was going to be good -- their entry hall and living room were filled with guitars, ukuleles, banjos, autoharps, and a couple of keyboards. He'd worked on Broadway back in the 60s, and they both looked like they'd be right at home at Woodstock.
Anyway, she explained that the organ had belonged to her mother who had recently passed, but neither of them play the organ, so they wanted it to go to someone who would enjoy it. I confessed that it has been 25 years since I last played an organ, having sold mine to buy a car that turned out to get worse mileage than the Wurlitzer would have. Long story short, they were quite pleased to allow me to adopt it at no cost. It was just delivered, and when I opened the cover there was a large purple sticky note with their message of "Party on in sunshine and love!" Somehow staying at home just got a bit happier.
Time to practice!

(86,061 posts)I have to get back on track with my ambitions of home recording. I think I'll wait until the holidays, might get some deals on equipment.
Enjoy your new friend!

(21,822 posts)Think about sending the givers a sample of your musical talent. I think they would enjoy hearing it and thinking what the woman's mother would think of your music.

(16,888 posts)now it is time to face the reality of the 'age-old' question:
"How do you get to Carnegie Hall?"
(simple - and THAT is the pain!):
PRACTICE - PRACTICE - PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!
It's early frustration in the beginning, but if you REALLY want to do it - it's gonna' work!
YOU GO, GIRL!!!!!!!

(69,806 posts)for a complex set of reasons i started taking voice lesson last year, age 66.
i'm working on playing piano.
partly it's that i love me teacher. we talk too much, always run long, and he has been an absolute lifeline.
but another part of my plague plan was tracing my family tree, getting ready to go to ireland. so i set about learning as many drinking songs as possible. this has been great fun.
when it's safe to go out again, i intend to hang out in irish bars w live music.
before i head over there i figure i should have 1 good song i can sing.
i can get away w about a dozen at this point as long as i dont sing to loud.
and my lost boy kid is getting a grip cuz i just indulged him in an electronic drum kit and all the goodies and bits.
music and art are what the world needs most right now.
