in the 90's Robert Plant was scheduled to get a star on the Universal Studios walk of fame here in Orlando. My wife and I took off work to go watch...he came and did the handprints in the cement and all that goofy shit - but the important thing is after the ceremony they herded us all into a small pavilion and he did a Q&A for about an hour and I got lucky enough to get the MC's attention and they brought the mic out to me so I could ask my question but I was so goddamned star struck I froze up and my wife had to snatch the mic from my hand and ask my question for me. Thankfully she didn't point out that I was damn near crying.

Yes dammit I fucking Love Led Zep that much. I don't usually get starstruck but come on..Robert Anthony Plant! And he was willing to talk to me! and I blew it.

Incidentally, unlike the super-mega douchebag Classic Rock DJ that had to ask about the tired, old, worn-out mud-shark story, OUR question was about his Priory of Brion project. You could see the mental face palm he made when that idiot from the radio asked him about a 30 year old story but he actually lit up when my wife asked about PoB. He asked how we even knew about that and she said "well, we love you and keep up with your projects - we have the internet, man!" and he laughed and thanked her for asking a good question.

When, during the 2nd verse, he reached out to a cute blonde chick in the front row, held her hand and sang to her.

That girl was me

Imagine how your life would have turned out. You would have married a nerd with a heart of gold and would be facing your first divorce.

Not sure if you dodged a bullet. Life is so complicated like that.

Was that the tour that Cheap Trick opened for him? I've seen him live several times and some are lost in the fog - but then, I never was a cute blonde chick who got a song from him...I think In The Mood was the opening song for that tour...

The funny thing with Plant was he was suppose to play on the 23rd, Saturday night. But there was a massive thunderstorm that night and the show was postponed. I was with one of my best friends and a co-worker of hers and we actually got a room in Hershey that night so we could party before the concert and not worry about driving.

We stood out in the rain for like 3 hours until they cancelled and we were wearing garbage bags as raincoats. When the concert was postponed we went to the Gingerbread Man in Hershey to hang out and party (it was our favorite bar when I was in college) and then I think to Spanky's where I cut my lip on a chipped bottle of Miller Genuine Draft (at the time that was my go-to beer).

Next morning we got up and heard that the concert was going to be at 2pm the next day so we grabbed breakfast, packed up from the hotel and headed over to Hershey. We should have gotten there earlier since we had general admission tickets and was hoping to get a good spot. However that was when the miracle of all miracles happened. They decided to open another gate into the venue and it was the one we were standing right next to - suddenly we were first in line to get into the stadium. It was funny because my friend's co-worker was like 'Mind if we hit the bathroom once we get inside'. I was like absolutely NOWAY we are going for the front and my best friend sided with me on that one. When the door opened the 3 of us held hands title and ran like it was the 100meter dash at the Olympics. We got just to the right of center in the front.

We had such a blast at that concert and the security guards between us and the stage were really cool. When Plant started the song and started reaching into the crowds the guards helped me to reach to Plant. Luckily I'm tall and have long hands so we were able to touch. We lasted for that 2nd chorus until some dimwit girl sitting on her boyfriend's shoulders decided to go topless. But Plant just laughed and moved on.

Afterwards we took the security guards out for dinner and drinks at the G-man and I actually dated the one guy for about 6 months. He was actually lived in Delaware at the time (I was in Central Bucks PA) so the distance was a bit tough on the relationship but I still have his Toledo Football shirt somewhere.

So that's my story! I just realized that the 24th is next Tuesday and it will be 24 years since that amazing concert.

I've been to so many great concerts but none will ever come close to that amazing Sunday afternoon in Hershey. And after having front row at Robert Plant I honestly don't care about front row anymore. Once you've had the best well the rest pale in comparison.
