SOS: Need some patented DU good vibes.

Today's the day I find out if I going be kept on after a merger earlier in the year. It has been hanging over my head like the sword of Damocles for months, but the meeting is today.

Wish me luck.

The upshot is I am still employed until the end of the year.

Then severance.

I get to keep my benefits for the first third of the year as well.

You are actually in a good spot, since you know it's happening, and when.

I wouldn't be surprised if your co. is waiting for you guys to start leaving, when you find new jobs. In fact, they may be hoping for that.

They were actually pretty good to you, in telling you months in advance.

For the ones I knew that happened to, they all found new jobs before the actual severance, except one, who chose to stay until the end. She's still there. She doesn't NEED to work (she's married to a rich guy), so she's not worried.

Good luck. Let us know what happens. I'm sending you all the good vibes I can.

Sorry about your team though.

It's still a bad economy to try to find a job if you're not employed already.

I know the feeling, unfortunately. At least you have a few more months with pay and severance. Hopefully, this will turn out to be a blessing in disguise, and that you'll wind up somewhere better.

Post-merger, I had to choose between a surprise early retirement and moving some 900 miles to a city that I deeply dislike, with no guarantee that my "new" job would continue - as happened to some of my co-workers who agreed to move. So I "retired."

You do have time, and you will find something. But, yes, it does suck. Welcome to life in corporate America, where employees are mere livestock.

I'm sorry about the outcome.

I hope you find something that makes life even better, after the job is over.

Thank you for your service.
